The Golden Hour Hunt (Study), 2019
Original, Pencil study on paper
14x16.5" artwork, unframed
Signed: Andrew Lee, lower right
This original drawing is a study done by Andrew Lee, as a precursor to a larger, full-color work of the same name. It was produced to plan out the details of the muscle structure and attention with which the English Pointer so instinctively presents in the field. The subject for this particular hunting dog was sought from the pages of Gray's Sporting Journal, during the very last hour of Andrew's time spent painting as their featured artist in their respective booth at the 2019 Southeastern Wildlife Exposition held annually in Charleston, SC.
Both this study and the full-color painting were an attempt of timed subject matter and were later refined and finalized at home in Auburn, Alabama. This drawing and painting are the third hunting dog that Andrew painted as he and his family joined Mike Floyd of Gray's Sporting Journal during the event at Brittlebank Park.
